during the war years this shop was owned by Whittel who had a daughter called Rita, who was evacuated to Cheshire during the war.
I can remember this shop as we were rationed there and once a week I would go and get them for my mother.things like 1 jar of jam per month 2oz butter. 4oz marge per week. and from the Co-Op accross the road
one shilling and ten pence worth of meat per week.[appx 9 new pence]
