Community And City Pride Awards 2004

In March 2004 Leeds City Services launched the 'Community & City Pride Awards' scheme. Burley Green was nominated in the 'Community Project of the Year' category, along with five other worthy projects.

On Friday 22nd October, Burley Green regulars Barry, Sheilagh, Barb & John were invited to the Awards Evening. Unfortunately Mike 'Mr Burley Green' Ries was unable to attend, as he was out of the country.

After a delicious meal and coffee the presentations began. The 'Community Project of the Year' winner was announced first - and it was Burley Green! We received a framed certificate along with shopping vouchers and a wheelbarrow full of litter-picking equipment!

We settled down to watch the remainder of the proceedings, only to discover that we were also nominated for the 'Innovation of the Year' award, for our 'Rapid Response' approach to graffiti removal after the big clean-up in September 2002. We were the runners-up and received a second framed certificate!

We had a very enjoyable evening and it was wonderful to hear all the success stories in and around Leeds.
