hi, i lived at 280 burley road, which was just above the village, from the age of 6 i used to go down into the village to play.the village itself was a kalidescope of adventure where we could climb trees dig holes run our home made bogeys down a rough road (bumbley hill}, there were also large grassed areas were we used to play taws and catch grass-hoppers.next to this area was a large rubarb field where we used to play hide and seek.one of the events in the village was Bonfire Night where all the residents would come, includeing the shop-holders on Burley road.
Although we were poor and didnt seem to have many toys it was a great childhood.
in 1955 the old village was pulled down for slum clearance and we were moved into a new corporation house at West Park.
 HAPPY MEMORIES.

Lived in Burley village from 1942 until 1955 then moved to Church Street, Kirkstall. Now retired to Aberdeenshire in Scotland, a place where old fashioned values still remain and door locks go rusty with non-use.

Many fond memories of Burley and of people who lived there, still have contact with a few.

Nice site, keep up the good work all concerned. Pete.Holmes
