Student AccommodationBurley is within walking distance of Leeds' two universities, so has a large student population. Many others who live in Burley are ex-students who work in Leeds but like Burley and have decided to stay here. The majority of students are responsible residents, but are often tarred with a general brush of 'noisy drunken students'. I was a student once (ten years ago), but I chose to stay in Burley and I love the place. But I have to get up early in the morning, and can appreciate how loud music played til the early hours can be very annoying to other residents. None of the students in our street are noisy, but I have friends in nearby streets who are often kept awake til three or four in the morning by loud music or people shouting to each other when they return from a night out. As is often the case in situations like this, it helps to put yourself in the other person's shoes. On the one hand, student's are away from home and appreciating not having someone telling them how to live their lives. On the other hand, they are now responsible for themselves, and need to think about the people around them and the area in which they live. (by John Kershaw) Trying to rent property in Burley seems to be an expensive business these days. My girlfriend and I are looking for a small house or flat with 2 or possibly 1 bedrooms from July. But prices with those pesky major letting agents have jumped to something like £65 a week for modest 'couple' sized accomodation. It makes it very difficult for some of us to stay in Burley. Anyone know of anything cheaper in the area, perhaps rented by private landlords...? -- JOE - ics9jjo@leeds.ac.uk See also: Burley Talk Pages that link to this page: Burley Talk / Pavillion Mews / St Michaels Lane |
