Tree Planting On Burley Green

A number of residents have expressed concern over the Tree Felling On Burley Green. BurleyGreen contacted Councillor Liz Minkin to find out what's happening:

I have had many inquiries from constituents about the felling of the trees in Burley Green, which has been done as part of the new development of flats on Cardigan Lane.

I have assured them about the replanting, but it would be helpful please if you could confirm that the right trees have been felled and what is the replanting and when it will be done, so I can pass it on to local people.

Dear Councillor Minkin,

Thanks for the E Mail. The right trees have been felled as per the planning permission in the 10 meter clearance strip adjoining the site in the Green and the trees removed from site.

The approved landscaping scheme indicates that 10 standard size trees will be replanted in this area (4 Silver Birch, 3 Rowan, 2 Wild Cherry or Gean and 1 Common Ash) with native shrub underplanting of Common Dogwood, Hazel, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Dog Rose and Sweet Briar.

Further planting to the west of the cleared strip in the remaining woodland is also included with native whips to infill spaces - the number and location have to be determined on site in agreement with us.

Bellways have an agreed programme which means that this planting should be carried out in the current planting season i.e. before the end of March 2003.
